DVD : DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC

After the introduction of the new consumer digital video viewing format - DVD in the late 1990s, many of the titles that were released in the VHS video format of the 1980s and 90s were now being released in this new versatile long lasting digital version.

Whereas, the VCR video tape format had 2 primary competing formats - VHS & Betamax and the 3 different world television standards - NTSC, PAL & SECAM, the new digital version still had the 3 different television standards but also included 8 world regions which was introduced to combat piracy of film/video properties.

Most of the television standards have now converted into digital standards such as DVB, ISDB and DTMB.

See the end of this page for the globe map showing the different TV systems.

PREM ASHRAM MEMORIES

DVD

38 mins.

In 1927, Esfandiar Vesali left his native Iran to study at the Prem Ashram, Meher Baba's school for boys at Meherabad/India. Although he arrived with secular educational ambitions, an initial exposure to Sufi poetry awakened in him a longing for God, a flame that Baba fanned.

In this interview, Esfandiar shares his intensified experiences of the spiritual path over the course of twenty months: from moments of sublime bliss to struggles with powerful negative thoughts to the increasing understanding of the significance of the Master.

He discovers that Baba knows his innermost being and that he can join the Divine Beloved deep in his heart. As Esfandiar simply and naturally shares his memories of the School of Love, his words carry the vibrancy of poetry.

This DVD lets us , the viewers, receive a vivid glimpse of life in the Prem Ashram, where a precocious and articulate young lover learns the nuances of the game of love. Esfandiar's reminiscences are interspersed with period photographs and choral music as well as scenes from The Prem Ahram, a play presented by Sufism Reoriented in 1981.

Scenes from Meher Baba’s Tour of Andhra, 1954

In February and March 1954, shortly after his first public declaration of his Avatarhood, Meher Baba toured the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Thousands thronged to see him, witnesses to the God-man’s glory as he journeyed from town to town. Fortunately a filmmaker followed with a 16mm camera and captured a myriad of moments that would otherwise have gone unseen: Baba ascending stairs against the background of a beautiful blue sea, playfully riding a merry-go-round, tenderly embracing a lover, majestically greeting darshan attendees as the Lord of Love, and striding with his companions across the countryside. This DVD enhances the source material, slows the footage down, and highlights intimate moments. It gives us the opportunity to share with his Andhra lovers the immediacy and wonder of the Beloved’s presence. These visual vignettes and tableaus combine with an original instrumental score by the Consortium of the Arts to create a vivid experience for devotion and meditation. 24 min.

At Meher Baba’s request, Charmian Duce Knowles made a documentary film of the entire tour. This video presents highlights from the film, edited and enhanced for videotape, showing the Master at work and play with his Western lovers. An original musical soundtrack features the Women’s Choir of the Consortium of the Arts singing Meher Baba’s name. 30 minutes.

Meher Baba’s Life in Song

During the years 1971 through 1981, Ivy Oneita Duce, Murshida of Sufism Reoriented, produced seven musical plays dramatizing episodes in the life of Meher Baba. Nearly all of her students participated in producing these plays. People came from all over the world to see these remarkable celebrations of Meher Baba’s life. Everyone who saw them remembers vividly their power and beauty. Most especially they remember the tremendous force of Meher Baba’s presence on these occasions.

Devotional Program:

It is Lovely Indeed Meher Baba asked members of Sufism Reoriented to repeat His name for 30 minutes and to meditate on Him for 15 minutes every day.
