Meanwhile, in China, Rustom and some of Baba's men Mandali had arrived in Shanghai, China.They were met at the port by Herbert Davy who had taken up a teaching position withe League of Nations at Nanking (Nanjing) University.

Their instruction from Baba was to wait in China and Herbert was to attend to them until Baba arrived some time later. Herbert took these men on a sight-seeing visit to Hangzhou which featured a statue Deng Shiru. Later, Baba instructed some of these men to return to India, before he arrived in China.
