Remembering Bobby Dearborn
Robert J. Dearborn, known affectionately as Bobby D., passed away at 9:40pm (EDT) Thursday, May 1, 2025 at the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro,
South Carolina.
A veteran of the United
States Navy, Bob served his country aboard a battleship during the Vietnam War. After discharge, he made his way to southern California, settling in Pasadena. Bob came into the fold of Avatar
Meher Baba in the early 1970s when he was a newly recovering member of Alcoholics Anonymous. For the rest of his life, Bob put into daily practice the AA 12 Step program staying clean and
sober while sponsoring many recovering alcoholics.
Bob was a straight shooter and told the truth without malice or a hidden agenda. He could get angry quickly but was never known to hold a grudge. He
enjoyed the culinary arts and was creative with a variety of crafts. He had a keen sense of humor and laughed often and wholeheartedly.
An active member of the Los Angeles Meher Baba group, Bob served in various capacities on the Avatar Meher Baba Center of Southern California Board of
Directors, the annual Los Angeles Sahavas programs, as well as helping out in various ways. After he relocated to the East Coast in the early two-thousands, Bob volunteered at the Meher
Spiritual Center in Myrtle Beach where he was a part-time staffer at the Gateway and the Saroja Library.
Bob lived the principle of service. He was employed as a paramedic, driving an ambulance in the Pasadena area and served as an alcoholism counselor. Bob
attended California State University, Dominguez Hills, pursuing a BA degree in Human Services. All through the years, Bob held tightly onto Meher Baba's daaman until the end. He remained a
prime example of cheerfulness under all conditions.
Bob is survived by his daughter Anjelica Dearborn (Santa Cruz, California).
